Brewing news UK: Greene King announced directors' shareholdings

Greene King plc announced on April 27 that, on 26 April 2006, 1,650 new ordinary shares in the company were transferred by Kleinwort Benson (Guernsey) Trustees Limited, as trustee of the Greene King Employee Share Trust, to satisfy shares awarded to employees of the group. As a result of the transfer, Rooney Anand, Ian Bull, Justin Adams, Mark Angela and David Elliott, who are beneficiaries of the trust, no longer have an interest in the 1,650 shares in the company. This brings the number of new ordinary shares in the Company owned by the Greene King Employee Share Trust to a total of 555,393.

Greene King has been brewing beer and operating pubs for over 200 years. Founded in 1799 by Benjamin Greene, it has grown steadily from its base in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk to become a leading pub retailer and ale brewer in the south of England. In August 2005 the board announced an agreed takeover of The Belhaven Group plc, one of Scotland's oldest and largest regional breweries which owns 271 pubs and brews Belhaven Best, the most popular draught ale in the Scottish on-trade. The offer became unconditional in September 2005. Belhaven now trades as a separate division of Greene King.
